A little movement. Deep stretching. Breathing.
Soothing music.
And a lot of releasing!
You will be guided through a series of restorative stretches, paired with live guitar and voice, each song creating space for your body to open, unwind and receive.
You’ll move slowly, hold poses, and settle into each song, not pushing or straining, just softening. It’s structured, but relaxed. Guided, and easy to follow.
Restore and Release sessions were birthed from a beautiful collaboration between my sister Leah Fox and I when I lived back in my home town of Fairview Alberta. She had an amazing idea to have me come sing while she led a restorative yoga class in her gym, Brave Culture. Each song Leah would lead the participants, showing them a laying or seated stretch. I would then play and sing a song for the duration of the held position. It became one of my greatest passions in a time where I was limited in capacity.
Since then I have moved to Panama and wanted to recreate this. I've been really enjoying continuing this journey with my community here in Boquete, doing the classes on my own, and also at the same time missing doing it with my dear sister. I love seeing people receive the music as they go into deep relaxation and have emotional releases.
the sound, let the music move you...In this 90 minute restorative stretching session, each person is provided with a comfortable 1 ½ inch mat, a bolster and block. I start by giving a brief breakdown of how the session will flow and some minor instruction on techniques, body awareness and pace.
standing and engaging in light movement, releasing stored tension from the day. I use Chi Gong methods of shaking, bouncing, lymphatic drainage techniques and breathing techniques to get the blood moving, bringing you back to connection with your body. We then take a seat on the mat and I take a few moments to ask about your intention for the session.
Opening it up for anyone to briefly share their thoughts, heart or how they are feeling. Ive found that speaking these intentions, or feelings out loud begin the process of movement and processing things bellow the surface. Giving space to guide you back into the present moment, out of the mind and back into the heart.
Now that we are on the mat, i will step by step guide you into each deep restorative stretch using the bolster and blocks. Once you are in the comfortable supported pose and leaning into the breath, I will then move over to my guitar. I will play and sing a 4-6 minute song, then move back to the mat and guide you slowly out of the position and transition you into the next pose. This will repeat for 10 poses, each with a soothing, uplifting song being played.
The final 2 songs will be laying flat on your mat, bolster under the knees, allowing you to rest and enjoy the music. We wrap up the session with some brief, light standing stretches. This is perfect as an evening session, priming you for a wonderful night sleep!
